Size Guide
Find the Right Vial Size for Your Workflow
Choosing the correct vial size and neck finish ensures compatibility with stoppers, caps, crimpers, and your filling process. This guide walks you through the most common sterile-ready vial formats used in research labs, pharmaceutical development, and small-batch manufacturing.
Common RTU & Crimped Vial Sizes
Trusted Sterile offers the most requested sizes used across chromatography, lyophilization, formulation, and general sample storage.
2R Vials — Small Volume, High Precision
Nominal Volume: ~2 mL
Recommended Fill: 0.5–1.5 mL
Neck Finish: 13 mm
Ideal For: High-value samples, standards, QC aliquots
6R Vials — Versatile Mid-Size
Nominal Volume: ~6 mL
Recommended Fill: 2–5 mL
Neck Finish: 20 mm
Ideal For: Reaction intermediates, buffer fills, sterile sample storage
10 mL Vials — Higher Capacity
Nominal Volume: ~10 mL
Recommended Fill: 6–8 mL
Neck Finish: 20 mm

Our products are built to remove friction and risk from sterile workflows so scientists and manufacturers can focus on outcomes—not supply chain uncertainty.
How to Choose Your Vial
When selecting a vial size, consider:
Target Fill Volume
Always choose a vial where the desired fill is 50–80% of the nominal capacity for headspace and handling.
Neck Finish & Stopper Match
Each vial size has a corresponding stopper and cap size: 13 mm for 2R vials
20 mm for 6R & 10 mL vials
Choose compatible silicone/PTFE stoppers and aluminum caps for proper sealing.
Sterile Workflow Requirements
Select:
RTU Open Vials for filling under sterile conditions
Crimped Vials for presealed gamma-sterile applications
Neck Finishes Explained
ISO Standard Necks: Compatible with industry-standard closing systems
Sealed Crimped Finish: Pre-crimped to eliminate sealing steps
Open RTU Finish: Ready for direct fill and seal operations
